Human Rights in the Community Sector - Advocating with Rights, and Meeting Potential Public Authority Obligations

The Human Rights Act 2004 guarantees key civil and political rights for people in the ACT. This course is for those with new obligations under the ACT as public authorities. This workshop will provide participants with: An understanding of the purpose and operation of the Human Rights Act 2004; An understanding of the way the Human Rights Act 2004 may reasonably limit rights; Information on how to advocate for clients using the Human Rights Act 2004; Provide details on which community sector organisations might have new responsibilities under the Act as ‘public authorities’ and what these obligations are; and An overview of the work of the Human Rights Commission in the area of human rights. Aboriginal Culture, History and Heritage Training, Part I

This one-day workshop for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal workers gives participants a general introduction into the recent history of Aboriginal people in Australia. It aims to improve knowledge of Aboriginal culture and dispossession, and explores ways the organisations might improve their practice to respond to the needs of Aboriginal people. This one-day follow-up workshop is for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal workers who have attended the initial Aboriginal Culture, History & Heritage Training program. The workshop provides an opportunity to further advance skills when working with Aboriginal people and community. It builds on the initial training by incorporating group work and case studies relating to workplace skills, communication and protocols, and allows people to put into practice their existing knowledge and expertise. Building Better Boards: The ACTCOSS Governance Workshop Program

ACTCOSS Governance workshops are designed to meet the needs of Board Members of not-for-profit organisations in the ACT. The workshops are designed to be interactive with participants contributing their own experiences and sharing knowledge as well as a networking opportunity for all participants.

This training will provide people on boards with a basic understanding of the role of the board in relation to financial management; financial reports; and financial statements.

A practical workshop to assist you to implement quality improvement in your organisation

Many organisations have a requirement to use Raising the Standard as part of service funding agreements. This workshop is for people who want to learn about the service standards developed for ACT community organisations which meet ACT Government funding requirements, the self-assessment process and tools, how to use the standards in a quality improvement process, and how to write a quality improvement workplan.
