Information Session: ACT Child Safe Standards

This information session is for organisations that provide services for children and young people in the ACT. It will help you understand the ACT Child Safe Standards and how they can help your organisation to create safer environments for children and young people.

At this session, you will learn about:

• What the ACT Child Safe Standards are

• Why the Standards were introduced

• What organisations need to know as they implement the Standards

• How leaders, staff, and volunteers can support child safe practice

• How the ACT Human Rights Commission can support your organisation

• Where to find further resources, training and support

Come along to learn with others working in organisations that support and care for children and young people.

Who will provide the session?

This information session will be provided by the office of the ACT Children and Young People Commissioner (CYPC). The CYPC is tasked with implementing the ACT Child Safe Standards. She and her staff provide resources, support, and training to better promote and protect the rights, safety, and wellbeing of children and young people.

Why is this important?

Since 1 August 2024, organisations providing services for children and young people in the ACT have been required to commence implementing the ACT Child Safe Standards.

The Standards help organisations take practice steps to ensure their services are child safe, child friendly, and child aware.
