Help shape gas prices in the ACT
The ACT is on a clear path to phasing out fossil gas in homes and businesses by 2045 as part of its commitment to reduce emissions. While this shift is necessary for a cleaner future, the decision will have implications for ACT residents that still rely on gas for cooking, heating, or hot water.
One of the most immediate issues is the cost of gas distribution. Evoenergy, the ACT’s sole gas distributor, will submit its proposed revenue recovery plan for 2026–2030 to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) on 30 June 2025. This proposal will shape how much households and small businesses will pay for gas, and how the costs of the transition away from gas will be shared.
In determining gas distribution costs for the next 5 years the AER will also consider the community’s views and expectations on what a fair transition looks like. To ensure the AER strikes the right balance in its determination, ACTCOSS will host an in-person workshop for community organisations on the 16th of June from 09:30 AM – 13:30 PM.
The workshop will breakdown the draft gas pricing proposal and allow participants to put forward their views on the following topics and more.
- impact of proposal on people vulnerable to financial/ energy hardship
- how much gas connections and disconnections should cost
- whether Evoenergy should be allowed to speed up it’s cost recovery
Your input will directly inform ACTCOSS’s formal submission to the AER, helping shape a fairer, more equitable outcome for all ACT households.
Guest speakers will include:
- Douglas McCluskey, Program Director, Justice and Equity Centre, Energy and Water Justice Program
- Representatives from Evoenergy, who will walk us through key elements of the proposal
