Tips and tools to improve your financial wellbeing and make the most of your super

This practical session is designed specifically for community sector workers who want to better understand their superannuation and take control of their financial wellbeing. Working in the community sector often means juggling multiple responsibilities and navigating unique employment arrangements, and this session will provide clear, practical guidance to help you make informed decisions about your super and long-term financial security.

Topics covered will include:

  • Understanding market volatility and its impact on super, and how to keep perspective during uncertain economic periods
  • When and how you can access your super, including rules relevant to different career stages and employment types common in the community sector
  • Practical ways to boost your super balance, including salary sacrifice contributions and simple strategies that can be applied at any point in your career
  • How to evaluate your current super and assess whether it is on track to meet your retirement goals
  • Nominating beneficiaries for your super and keeping your details up to date
  • Understanding insurance through your super, including cover for office-based and community sector roles

This session will also include time for questions, so you can discuss scenarios specific to community sector work and get guidance tailored to your needs.

Please note: This webinar is open to ACTCOSS members, HESTA members, and non-HESTA members.

About the facilitator:

Marthes Pattman, Member Education Manager at HESTA

Marthes Pattman is a Member Education Manager in South NSW /ACT. Being a woman who has worked hard to achieve her goals means Marthes can appreciate the members she helps.

“80% of our members are female, so me being a middle-aged woman who worked my way up from a Customer Service Officer at the State Bank of New South Wales into financial advice is life experience that you just can’t beat."

With experience across different stages of my own career, I enjoy helping members understand superannuation in a clear and practical way. I am passionate about supporting people to make the most of their super, whether they are just starting out, mid-career, or thinking ahead to retirement, so they feel confident and informed about their financial future.
