Federal candidates forum: Spaces filling up fast!
24 April 2019
Come along to ACT Decides: A Community Conversation –
ACTCOSS’ ACT federal election candidates forum next Monday 29 April 2019.
We’ve invited federal election candidates across party or independent affiliations to share with you their responses and plans for federal priorities, services and programs for ACT residents.
It’s an opportunity for local dialogue with a local focus – a space for candidates to reflect on community sector priorities, have conversations and dialogue with community sector membership and reflect on community concerns through a local lens.
A local focus recognises that the ACT isn’t just the seat of government, it’s a growing territory where over 420,000 people live, work and depend on services, transfer payments, tax arrangements and infrastructure arranged in whole or part by the federal government.
In addition to national questions, Canberra voters are vitally interested in how federal candidates respond to community issues on a local level.
Candidates will be responding to local issues relevant to the Australian Council of Social Service policy platform including:
- income support to get through tough times and real help to find employment
- a secure, affordable home for everybody
- action on climate change and affordable, clean energy
- quality health and community services
- funding for our future
- a strong community voice and a thriving democracy.
