Older Canberrans’ wellbeing and rights need to be supported by age-friendly policies, services and infrastructure, with a particular focus on older Canberrans most vulnerable to exclusion. To achieve this, ACTCOSS calls on the incoming ACT Government to adopt a range of policy measures, including:
- more social and affordable housing for older Canberrans
- investment in timely and affordable health and wellbeing services
- expanded access to reliable and affordable public and community transport
- equitable access to information and services, including for older Canberrans experiencing digital exclusion
- inclusive and age-friendly public spaces, buildings and infrastructure
- a Mature Jobs Strategy
- investment in flexible models of respite for care recipients and their carers
- a fully resourced plan to prevent and respond to elder abuse
- community-led services for older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the ACT.
