ACTCOSS is extremely grateful to receive a Communities Climate Action Grant from the ACT Government to host a climate adaptation forum.  The forum will take place in November 2026 and will bring together ACT community sector organisations, climate researchers and policy makers to share how we can all adapt to the changing climate and its challenges.

“The changing climate is putting Canberrans’ health and wellbeing at risk. Funding for the community sector to help mitigate these risks is essential. Support now helps ensure essential services can continue or expand during crises, when they are needed most,” said ACTCOSS CEO, Dr Devin Bowles.

The National Climate Risk Assessment shows that individuals and households already disadvantaged are the most vulnerable to the impacts of a changing climate. As community organisations we want people impacted by climate change to remain safe, supported and connected as climate risks intensify.

Community Sector consultation for the Community Sector Adaptation Plan

We’d like to hear about what support you need most so you can keep delivering into the future. You do not need any climate or science expertise to be involved in this consultation

In partnership with the ACT Government, ACTCOSS has completed a pilot project working with 10 ACT organisations to develop their own climate adaptation plans.

ACTCOSS is now developing an ACT-wide Community Sector Adaptation Plan to provide information and guidance to the ACT community Sector.

Join our online consultation session to share what you are seeing on the ground and what challenges a changing climate is bringing for your clients and members.

We will use the insights we gain to help develop a Community Sector Adaptation Plan to provide information and guidance to the ACT community Sector.

Does your organisation help people recover after a disaster?

Part of understanding how we need to adapt to climate change is understanding who does what, including after climate disasters.

So we’d also like to hear from you if your community organisation helps people needing support following a disaster, with things like:

  • emergency accommodation
  • financial assistance
  • psychological or trauma support
  • clothing and essential supplies, or
  • legal assistance.
