ACTCOSS provided feedback on the draft Disability Inclusion Bill 2023. We support the underlying intent of this Bill, which seeks to establish a framework for creating disability inclusion strategies across government in priority areas. The Bill also establishes a Disability Advisory Council, as well as requiring ACT Government agencies to develop disability inclusion plans that detail how they are going to adapt their work processes and programs to be more inclusive of people with disability. Our feedback identifies some areas where we believe the draft Bill could be strengthened, including by broadening the scope of the Bill, strengthening accountability and oversight, and clarifying aspects of the Disability Advisory Council’s membership requirements and remit.
